We tested numerous variants incorporating resonators, helmholtz resonators \/ anti-drone tubes, straight pipes, and a basic x-pipe to hone in on the best possible solution. Testing was done with and without our \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/eurocustomspr.com\/products\/porsche-991-2-carrera-base-without-pse-sport-catalytic-converters\"\u003eSport Catalytic Converters\u003c\/a\u003e as they are a very common modification. Resonators reduced the overall engine tone and volume and did not have enough of an impact on the drone. Helmholtz resonators (also known as anti-drone tubes) are an effective way to reduce undesirable frequencies when engineered and utilized correctly. Our final design has proven to offer the very best results on this application and achieved our high standards for sound quality and drivability. Our optimized 3 into 1 merge collector design improves response over the poor factory design, while our runners ultimately increase exhaust velocity into the collector and turbo. Looking into the factory headers you will notice a support in the middle runner which is detrimental to a smooth flow path out of that exhaust port – all in all the design is very basic with lots of room for improvement. The factory turbo inlet measures around 1.54” ID and we sized our header outlet to 1.63” for a smooth flow path into the turbo. The internal volume of the header combined with the resulting design improvements pairs well with the efficiency map of the turbo giving you noticeably quicker boost response and more power throughout the RPM range. Pushing the gas pedal down commands faster feedback from the car and each gear has more usable power before a downshift.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe factory header utilizes a double wall design while our design is single wall yielding in a more pleasing, sharper edge to the exhaust and increased turbo sound. But even with upgraded headers or catalytic converters, as featured on our development car, it never reaches a level of aggression that is unsuitable for street use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven still, it was our objective to create a driving experience at low RPMs and in everyday driving situations that is pleasant, civilized, and anonymous when needed, both inside and outside the car. It was imperative to have a tangible delta in the sound level between driving modes and thus we engineered our secondary flow path to handle this creatively.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDue to the orientation of the factory exhaust and its inlet and outlet pipes, there is not ample space for a muffler for the secondary flow path and restricting tubing diameter would only affect the overall sound level so much.
