Even under full throttle application in Sport mode the valves will still not stay open 100% of the time. We incorporated an internal X-pipe to allow the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. These characteristics combined were crucial towards reducing and smoothing out the drone in the 2,000-2,400rpm range while enhancing that higher pitched note we were after in both the valves closed and open conditions. With valves open exhaust gases are free to flow through 3″ piping with an x-pipe to enhance the tone before exiting out the tips. A slip on merge collector was not considered to prevent any chances of exhaust leaks. Instead we focused on designing a high flow collector from CAD to CNC for a no compromise end result. With valves closed the exhaust is routed through secondary flow path piping and a bespoke SOUL muffler. The internal design has little to no restriction in the flow path, using straight-through perforated piping to allow exhaust gasses to escape and become muffled in the surrounding packing material of the muffler body. The muffler also incorporates an internal x-pipe to allow the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. All of these characteristics are crucial towards reducing and smoothing out the drone in the sub 3,000rpm range while enhancing the higher pitched note we were after in both the valves closed and open conditions.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe catted\/catless sections are interchangeable. Bespoke catalytic converter sections allow us to go up to \u003cstrong\u003efull 3” diameter\u003c\/strong\u003e in both catted and catless configurations. The cat pipes then go into a 3” X-Pipe assembly. While some X-Pipe designs use 3” bends, they are cut and welded together and thus reduce the diameter of the pipe to make the X. Our X-Pipe is unique in that it is cast to maintain strength and reduce the amount of welds in the system, and we take advantage of that casting to elongate the X to maintain the tubing diameter and maximize flow characteristics. Exhaust flow leaving the X-Pipe assembly then exits out through 3” diameter piping all the way to the tip exits.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLengthening the flow path and blending the exhaust flow in the X-Pipe creates a smoother, higher pitch than shorter separated banks. To further refine the tone of the exhaust note, we first implemented four resonators similar to our 996\/997\/991 Turbo X-Pipe systems. We reduced the resonators to two, which still refined the exhaust note but allowed more overall sound volume for the driver to enjoy. The 992 platform does have a drone range of approximately 2,000-2,400rpm and the less restriction you have the more pronounced this becomes. We experimented with different lengths and locations of Helmholtz anti-drone tubes to reduce drone. While not eliminated, we’ve reduced it to what we would consider a reasonable level for most drivers looking to maximize the potential of the 992 platform with an aggressive exhaust system. Once we determined the most effective length of the drone tubes separately from each other, we then looped them together into a more symmetrical and aesthetically appealing design while capping them internally to remain functional.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEliminating the valves was a unique challenge. You cannot simply unplug the electronically actuated valves. If you do – expect limp mode. You cannot take the electronic valve actuators off the mechanical valve bodies and leave them plugged in. Bespoke catalytic converter sections allow us to go up to \u003cstrong\u003efull 3” diameter\u003c\/strong\u003e in both catted and catless configurations. The cat pipes then go into a 3” X-Pipe assembly. While some X-Pipe designs use 3” bends, they are cut and welded together and thus reduce the diameter of the pipe to make the X. Some are even cast like ours but don’t maintain that full diameter while blending the exhaust flow. Our X-Pipe is unique in that it is cast to maintain strength and reduce the amount of welds in the system, and we take advantage of that casting to elongate the X to maintain the tubing diameter and maximize flow characteristics.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLengthening the flow path and blending the exhaust flow in the X-Pipe creates a smoother, higher pitch than shorter separated banks. To further refine the tone of the exhaust note, we first implemented four resonators similar to our 996\/997\/991 Turbo X-Pipe systems. However, the 992 has notably less cabin intrusion than the previous generations -to the driver that wants an aggressive experience it just was not quite there. We reduced the resonators to two, which still refined the exhaust note but allowed more overall sound volume for the driver to enjoy. The 992 platform does have a drone range of approximately 2,000-2,400rpm and the less restriction you have the more pronounced this becomes. We experimented with different lengths and locations of Helmholtz anti-drone tubes to reduce drone. While not eliminated, we’ve reduced it to what we would consider a reasonable level for most drivers looking to maximize the potential of the 992 platform with an aggressive exhaust system. Once we determined the most effective length of the drone tubes separately from each other, we then looped them together into a more symmetrical and aesthetically appealing design while capping them internally to remain functional. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEliminating the valves was a unique challenge. You cannot simply unplug the electronically actuated valves. If you do – expect limp mode. You cannot take the electronic valve actuators off the mechanical valve bodies and leave them plugged in. If you do – limp mode. \u003cem\u003eFor the time being\u003c\/em\u003e – the factory valves need to be mounted to a bespoke bracket that creates a start\/stop point for the electronic valve actuators to mimic factory valve functionality. A muffler proved to be the most effective way to reduce the drone level under 3k rpm enough to meet our goals for reduced cabin presence for an exciting touring level of sound. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWith valves open, exhaust is free to flow through 3” piping and an x-pipe that merges the exhaust flow for a higher pitched, smooth sound with maximum flow characteristics. With valves closed the exhaust is routed through secondary flow path piping and a bespoke SOUL muffler. The internal design has little to no restriction in the flow path, using straight-through perforated piping to allow exhaust gasses to escape and become muffled in the surrounding packing material of the muffler body. The muffler also incorporates an internal x-pipe to allow the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. All of these characteristics are crucial towards reducing and smoothing out the drone in the sub 3,000rpm range while enhancing the higher pitched note we were after in both the valves closed and open conditions.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe catted\/catless sections are interchangeable. You can reduce the chance of CELs with 200cell cats and tone down the exhaust if need be, or you can run the catless section to amp up the fun and performance on track. The actuators themselves are what keep the tension on the valve bodies, so you can’t take them off and have the valves default open via spring pressure like previous vacuum actuated OEM valves.
